There must be a special place in hell for people that commit crimes so heinous that there is nothing left in the heart of the victim’s family, but hatred and retribution.

Sherry West was being robbed by teenagers in Brunswick, Georgia, last Thursday when the unthinkable happened. The accused robber, 17-year-old De’Marquis Elkins, 17, and a 14-year-old accomplice who isn’t being identified because he is a juvenile, shot her 10-month-old son, Antonio Santiago, between the eyes; killing him instantly.

West was also shot and shoved out of the way when she tried to protect her child. Elkins and the 14-year-old are being charged with first degree murder of West’s son.  But, while charges have been brought against the two, police are still insisting that there is a pending investigation of the incident.

Todd Rhodes of the Brunswick police department told reporters:

“There is no clear motive right now.  I don’t care what you’ve heard in the past or from anyone else, right now we’re investigating this case to the fullest.”

Sherry West and her baby were shot in a botched robbery that claimed the life of her 10-month-old son.

West picked Elkins out of 24 pictures of other offenders, but Elkins’ aunt contends that he was with her at the time of the shooting.  West also lost another son during a violent stabbing in New Jersey five years ago.  She says that she hates these boys and prays they get death.  We can’t blame her there.

This shooting comes right on the heels of a Chicago infant that was shot and killed during a diaper change in a vehicle with his dad.
