Penelope Soto, 18, goes up against Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat for drug possession. This is the quiet before the storm.
Everyone wants their day in court, but if you’ve been watching these TV judges or have been in trouble with the law, you know not to go in their court actin’ up!
The next time you’re in Miami, make sure you keep your nose clean and don’t end up in Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat’s courtroom. If you do…don’t play! He made an example out of Penelope Soto, 18, who was arrested for drug possession, so that anyone that thinks they want to try him can refer to her performance.
He was being lenient with the teenager until she started getting lippy with him and acting erratic. Her actions were so uncharacteristic of a defendent, Judge Rodriguez-Chomat had to ask her if she had any drugs before she entered the courtroom. Her answer was “no,” but she continued to giggle and flip her hair and show little to no concern for her fate.
Soto, 18, reacts after Judge Rodriguez-Chomat hands down a larger fine of $10,000.
Well, she was first given the usual fine for drug possession of $5,000, but before Soto left the court, she turned to the judge and said “Adios!” Well that, along with her flippant attitude, ruffled his feathers and he called her back to the bench where he immediately changed her fine to $10,000 and shot back at her, “Adios!”
Her mouth flew open in complete shock! Then, she cursed at him and flipped him the bird. And as they say in the hood, IT WAS OOOOONNN! Let’s just say, she got some tiiiime to think about what she did.
