We’ve all been to a funeral, but raise your hand if you’ve been to a Homegoing Celebration. There’s a distinct difference between the two. But in case you’re not aware, there’s a new show that will clear up all the Homegoing as well as funeral protocol for you.
The Learning Channel (TLC), has decided to take you deep into the underworld of the funeral business by following Funeral Director, John Beckwith, and his staff at the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas, through some of the most amazing Homegoing Celebrations ever seen.
Beckwith walks families through an elaborate choice of funerals for the deceased. The trailer shows family and friends gathered around a boxing ring as the coffin is brought up inside and even going so far as recreating a disco for deceased Disco Danny Williams. The atmosphere was not complete until they had a man doing the Watusi down the middle of the aisle.
TLC won’t be getting rid of Honey Boo Boo and other shows, but this show will probably give the others a run for their money. It airs December 26, and is totally dependent on the ratings to get picked up for a full season.
The Golden Gate crew even made it so the deceased could slam dunk a basketball at his celebration. Wow! I don’t even wanna know.
“We do not have generic funerals,” Beckwith tells a family attending a memorial planning session. “Everybody’s experience has to be different.”
