Radio One Joins Forces with Tom Joyner’s Reach Media

Ever since BET was sold to Viacom, other media companies have been looking for the perfect venture and it seems that one has been established.

Radio One, Inc. has decided to join with Reach Media, Inc., to create the leading African American network radio company.  Radio One’s Syndication One Urban programming combined with Reach Media line-up includes:  Tom Joyner, Rickey Smiley, Russ Parr, Yolanda Adams, Reverend Al Sharpton, Warren Ballentine and CoCo Brother. The merger will also create and acquire more talent for their programming audience.

According to Radio One CEO and President Alfred Liggins and Reach Media CEO David Kantor,  Radio One would increase its ownership stake in Reach Media from 53% to 80%.  Radio One CEO and President, Alfred Liggins said in a statement:

“Radio One has a commitment to be the leader in radio and online programming with compelling entertainment and information for the African-American audience. Combining our assets under Reach Media offers an incredibly broad platform for affiliate stations and advertisers to connect with our loyal audience.”

The Tom Joyner Morning Show will be joined with Ricky Smiley, Russ Parr and others for Urban radio royalty.

David Kantor, Reach Media CEO stated,

“In bringing together the most compelling Urban programming in radio, we’ve created a platform that can focus on outstanding talent for our affiliates and the delivery of an incredibly responsive consumer base. We look forward to expanding our offerings and becoming the primary radio network for advertisers to reach African- Americans.”
