The police departments throughout the country have managed to stay out of the news for a brief moment, but they’re back and the offenses are the same. The poor judgment of officers throughout the country seem to be a never ending issue.
Tiffany Rent, 30, of Chicago, Illinois, was at the receiving end of the latest case of police brutality. Rent is eight months pregnant and was tasered by one of Chicago’s finest during a dispute over her parking in a handicapped parking space. Really?! C’MON SON! You know that shizzle wasn’t right!
Well, if he didn’t know before, the officer as well as the rest of Chicago’s police department know now. They were smacked with a lawsuit from the Rent family on Thursday, according to the Huffington Post. The only thing confusing to us is why it took so long to begin legal action.
The dispute occurred on June 5, and it all began because Rent parked in a handicapped space at a Walgreen’s while her fiance’, Joseph Hobbs, went inside. While her and her two children–a three-year-old and a nine-year-old–waited, Rent got out of the car to fasten her three-year-old into her seat and was given a ticket. Rent ripped up the ticket and all hell broke loose from there.
Hobbs, Rent and the officer all became embroiled in some sort of altercation leaving Hobbs elbow dislocated, and Rent tasered in front of her young children. The electric shock to her body could have injured her unborn child. Rent went to two different hospitals afterwards to ensure her “high risk” pregnancy was not in jeopardy.
But even dumber than the officer’s choice to taser Rent, the Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told reporters at an unrelated press event last week
“You can’t always tell if somebody’s pregnant. So, you know you want to use (a Taser) where you’re overcoming assault or preventing escape, that’s what it boils down to.”
And after that, we have no further comment. Please watch the report. Unbelievable!
