UPDATE: CEO Gives Raises After Threatening Layoffs if Obama Won

David Siegel, CEO of Westgate Resorts, give raises rather than pink slips that he promised if Obama was re-elected.

The Republicans will not stop with their doomsday predictions.  Some threatened to issue pink slips to their employees if Obama won, but it appears that, at least one, has renounced his earlier statements.

As we reported October 9, Westgate Resorts CEO David Siegel, sent all of his employees an e-mail threatening potential layoffs if Obama was re-elected.  The e-mail said:

“If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company.”

But Siegel said that his e-mail was “twisted by the media” and he never told anyone he was going to fire them, according to CNN.  Rather than fire anyone, he decided to give everyone a five percent raise. He said that his company made record profits last year and he wanted to pass on some of the rewards to employees because they’re going to need them:

“I hope I can maintain our profits,” he said. “We’re not going to be hiring people or expanding. But my goal now instead of growing is getting out of debt and staying profitable.”

  1. It’s called damage control. He wants to make sure the Westgate resorts are not boycotted. Damage for me is already done. I will no longer stay at any of his resorts.

  2. Siegel is talking out both sides of his mouth. He announced to employees raises of up to 5% weeks ago, before the election and his emails during the company’s “Customer Appreciation Week”.
This company is so corrupt, part of the reason I believe he has kept it private instead of going public as planned years ago. Far too many family members, friends and :good ol’ boys” in this company. Someone should really investigate Westgate internally. Just start with the web and all the documented lawsuits that the company and Siegel personally have lost.
