Woman Grows New Ear on Her Arm to Replace Ear She Lost (Video)

Sherrie Walters received a new ear with the help of Johns Hopkins doctors...and her arm.

We reported on Sept. 18, how doctors have found a way to grow muscle tissue using a “pig’s cellular tissue to rebuild their leg or arm.”  It sounds like science fiction, but nothing could be further from the truth.  It is very real and now further advancements are being made.

Back in 2008, Sherrie Walters was diagnosed with a type of rapidly spreading cancer in her left ear and doctors removed part of her ear, part of her skull and part of her left ear canal.  But now Johns Hopkins has successfully grown a replacement ear for Walters….inside her arm.  Wow!

Sherrie Walters lost half her ear to cancer in 2008.

The fantastic tale gets more interesting when you hear how doctors made it possible.  Dr. Patrick Byrne, Walter’s reconstructive surgeon took part of the cartilage from her ribs to “stitch together” an ear and grew the ear in her forearm for months.  Sound astounding?  Check out the report.
