There are many cultures that come to America and live as white or caucasian. Then there are some that have been designated as such in their own country, but come here and are considered anything but white. You ever pay attention to the race and/or ethnic categories that you fit into on applications and other documents? The groups are: hispanic or latino, non-hispanic or latino, asian, black or african american, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Other Race.
White is defined as: White: Origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. Now one Detroit man, Mostafa Hefny, is from Egypt and has been fighting to be designated black since 1997. He immigrated to the U.S. from Egypt in 1978, and it is clear that he is a black man.
Hefny has lost jobs designated for minorities and told Clutch Magazine:
“As a black man and as an African, I am proud of this heritage,” he told the Detroit News. “My classification as a white man takes away my black pride, my black heritage and my strong black identity.”
This is absolutely nuts, but it happens all the time. Check it out here.
