The Obamas couldn’t catch a break on protocol over in London during their first visit. Michelle Obama merely made the mistake of touching the Queen. But some people have gone far beyond protocol problems to downright insulting the people.
Mitt Romney has been over there in the Olympic camps just actin’ up. He’s been acting like somebody’s mother-in-law comin’ up in the house, touchin’ the furniture checkin’ for dust, looking in the refrigerator, and chastising everybody. According to the Huffington Post, Romney walked up in the place with his chest out because he managed the 2002 Olympic games in Salt Lake City, and started criticizing the preparation of London’s games.
He told NBC News:
“The stories about the private security firm not having enough people, the supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials — that obviously is not something which is encouraging.”
The Prime Minister David Cameron was a bit unnerved by Romney’s remarks and took a shot at his supposed experience with the 2002 Olympics in Utah saying:
“Anybody can hold a major event in the middle of a corn field. We’re in London, baby! What?!”
Ok…that’s a loose translation. What he really said was:
“We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course, it’s easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere.”
But it didn’t stop there. Jethro, I mean, Romney went around telling everybody he met with the MI6, “U.K. Secret Intelligence Service whose existence was only acknowledged by the British government in 1994” and according to MI6 Chief Sir John Sawers in the Wall Street Journal they have never made their meetings with anyone public knowledge. In other words, “Where’d they get this bamma from?”
It doesn’t appear that he is off to a good start with his public relations in London. In fact, in response to his criticisms of the Olympic Games, the Mayor of London Boris Johnson showed his allegiance to Obama in front of 60,000 onlookers in Hyde Park saying:
“There is a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know if we are ready. Yes, we are!”
Wow! You better back up, Romney! Read more here and check out the video of London’s Mayor ripping him in front of the crowd.
