DirecTV Customers Abruptly Lose Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and Others in Bad Deal

DirecTV loses shows like Spongebob Squarepants in deal gone wrong with Viacom that cost the provider VH1, MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.

If you’re a fan of South Park, Key and Peele, and/or Mob Wives AND you’re a DirecTV subscriber our hearts go out to you.  It must have been a total shock to you when you no longer had access to your favorite shows last night.

MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon were all lost Tuesday in a bad deal between DirecTV and Viacom.  Luckily though, you’ll still get BET (another Viacom channel).  Both sides are blaming the other for the channels being removed.  DirecTV told the Los Angeles Times that their hand was “forced” by Viacom:

“DirecTV executives reached out to Viacom both yesterday and today with a new proposal and a request to keep the channels on while we continued to negotiate, but never heard back, so DirecTV had to comply with their demand to take the channels down or face legal action,” the company said in a statement.

But Viacom is telling DirecTV to stop it!  They say that they didn’t demand a ton of money from DirecTV subscribers and they thought they were fair with DirecTV in the deal offered:

Viacom said it had “proposed a fair deal that amounted to an increase of only a couple pennies per day, per subscriber” and that it hopes that “DirecTV will work with us toward a resolution, and stop denying its subscribers access to the networks they watch most.”

“Girls, girls, you’re both pretty!” Can we get the channels back now?  You better hurry up and work something out though before Mother Johnson picks up her cane and comes down there. You don’t wanna mess with folks favorite programs.
