The Today show rumors have come to a close. Ann Curry officially signed off the air Thursday, in a heartfelt goodbye to the co-host seat alongside Matt Lauer. Everyone gave her a huge pat on the back and shared their thoughts on her 15-year career with the network.
Curry shared that she would not be leaving the show completely though, but merely being shifted into a new position:
“I will still be part of the ‘Today’ show family but I will have a new title and a new role. And this is not how I ever expected to leave this couch after fifteen years. But I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch.” Curry called viewers the “real ‘Today’ show family,” saying, “I have loved you and I’ve wanted to show you the world.”
This morning, the show opened with Savannah Guthrie filling the seat. For some strange reason, she was not present during Curry’s last words to the fans. Maybe that would’ve added insult to injury to pass the baton to Guthrie. Reportedly, she was offered the position, but it has not been confirmed as to whether she will take it permanently as the network has not made an official statement on Curry’s replacement.
Check out part of Ann Curry’s farewell to the Today show.
