The comic books are really reflecting the changes in society lately. We recently reported on Marvel Comics’ gay superhero Northstar of the Astonishing X-Men that will be getting married this month in the issue hitting stands June 20. Now, one superhero that has been around much longer than Northstar decides he will come out of the closet with more than a super wardrobe change.
According to The Blaze, the original Green Lantern Alan Scott, is being relaunched as a gay superhero. He will reveal his sexual identity on Wednesday. The writer James Robinson told Entertainment Weekly that Scott was introduced in the 1940 comic with a son, Obsidian that was gay. But with the reboot of the magazine to reflect today’s issues, Scott becomes gay and Obsidian no longer exists.
“It’s a realistic depiction of society,” he added. “You have to move with the times.”
They are moving with Marvel Comics. The updates came after the same sex marriage update in their comic book. But the same mothers that came out against JCPenney using Ellen Degeneres for their ads, One Million Moms, are also up in arms about the changes DC Comics have made in the character as well as the same sex marriage in Marvel Comics and are circling their wagons.
