Grace Jones Makes Rare Appearance for the Queen (Video)

Grace Jones performs "Slave to the Rhythm" for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

If you’ve been wondering how Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga came up with all that style there is only one explanation and it’s a woman.  But not just any woman, the diva of all divas that claims the title for completely changing the game when it came to women in entertainment.

Grace Jones is a rare jewel from Jamaica that hit the disco scene hard in the late 1970’s.  Her funky, eccentric, new wave style was nothing the landscape of music had ever seen (with the exception of the funky style of Ms. Patti Labelle when she changed from the BlueBelles to LaBelle).  It’s been many years since we’ve heard much from her, but she came out to salute Queen Elizabeth during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrating her 60 years as the matriarch of England.

Bishop Noel Jones is her little brother, but their worlds couldn’t be further apart.  At 64 years old, she came out on stage and sang while hula hooping to her hit “Slave to the Rhythm” as though she wasn’t a day over 20.  She showed them what it means to GRACE the stage.  Enjoy.
