A mother is at her wits end on trying to find ways to protect her son who is a gay high school student being bullied every day. She resorted to weaponry and stands behind that decision…police and school be damned!
Chelisa Grimes’ 17-year old openly gay son, Darnell “Dynasty” Young, attends Arsenal High School in Indianapolis, has been the victim of bullying before he came out about his sexuality. He claims classmates would regularly taunt him and throw things at him at school and after school:
“All day I’d be on my guard,” he told the Indy Star. “It never got better. It always got worse.”
Finally, his mom gave him a taser and he used it. But Young is up for expulsion over the incident because he was simply trying to defend himself. When he triggered his stun gun to scare off bullies, school police arrived to arrest him. Young was suspended.
But the ordeal happened because his mother felt she was not supported and his bullies had all the power. The principal, Larry Yarrell, was even quoted saying:
“If you wear female apparel, then kids are kids and they’re going to say whatever it is that they want to say.”
