Couple Buy Home and Held at Gunpoint by Neighbors

Jean Kalonji tried to move in new home, but was stopped and held at gunpoint by neighbors, then arrested.

Have you bought a new home?  Happy with it?  What about the neighbors?  A good practice when searching for a new home is to get a police report on the neighborhood you’re looking in.  The latest news report suggest that we should be taking every precaution when buying a home, but it still may not provide you with the information you need on the neighbors.

Jean Kalonji and his wife Angelica, were celebrating their son’s purchase of a foreclosed home that they all will be living in when their good times were interrupted with gun wielding neighbors, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Kalonji’s were following the realtor’s instructions of changing the locks on their new home when neighbors held the couple at gunpoint telling them to put their hands behind their heads.  The neighbors contend that they thought the two were breaking into the home.

But to add insult to injury, deputies showed up on the scene and arrested them because they were not in possession of their closing papers for the house.  The cops charged them with “loitering and prowling.” Kalonji, who is from the Congo, said that this brought back horrendous memories.

“There, they put me down with the gun to my head, and come here, the same.”

Welcome to America, Mr. Kalonji.  Read more here.
