Nelson Mandela Archives Go Digital

Do you know Nelson Mandela?  Well, if you didn’t have much knowledge on the legendary South African leader and political prisoner, now is a perfect time to learn more.  This is the first time that this much information has been made available on his life.

Approximately 2,000 pieces of his history have been digitized for online consumption with help from Google, according to BBC News.  The internet firm gave 1.25 million to the project last year.  The report states that these items being made available are precious and rare:

“We believe in the power of digital technologies in bringing the legacy of Madiba [Mr Mandela’s clan name] to the masses,” AFP news agency quoted Mark Yoshitake, who managed the project, as saying. “It is content that has never been digitised before, content that has never been accessible before.”

Nelson Mandela is one of the most widely known political activist in the world for the 27 years he spent on Robbins Island under treacherous conditions.  But now, we will learn so much more.  Read the full report here.
