Tupac Shakur was one of the best hip hop artists, arguably the best hip hop artist, that the world had ever seen. For a long time, there were many conspiracy theories that he was living on an island in the Caribbean living like the elusive Makaveli pseudonym he assumed to write his last album. Now another “fan” is putting together a musical that celebrates the work of the fallen rapper.
Kenny Leon is putting together a broadway musical called “Holler If Ya Hear Me” and it will not be a biography, but a celebration of his life’s work. The casting call begins March 10, and he is looking for:
“African American Male and Female rappers between the ages of 18 – 35, in addition to one “Caucasian actor” between the ages 20 – 25 with a “strong facility for rap and terrific guitar skills.”
Leon is not certain of the date, but is preparing for the 2013 Broadway schedule and his actors will begin workshops on April 23 and end on May 11. This will certainly be something very different for Broadway and fans will be trying to buy tickets as soon as they can. I’m standing in line typing this story from my iPhone right now. So I have to go now. Read more here.
