The social networking realm of the technology world is steadying itself for a huge rumble in the jungle. Facebook has risen so fast it appears that they have forgotten a few things that brought them to the top. Now, it’s time to pay the piper!
Yahoo! is fed up with Facebook and wants them to acknowledge the services they’ve provided. The patents on those services have a price tag and Facebook and Yahoo! met on Monday to hash out exactly what that price might be. The report states:
“Yahoo has asserted claims on patents that include the technical mechanisms in the Facebook’s ads, privacy controls, news feed and messaging service, according to a source briefed on the matter.”
Yahoo! says that they are merely protecting their intellectual property and other companies who have also licensed those services. And basically, if Facebook doesn’t pay up they are going to sue. If they take Facebook to court it would mark the first major litigation between social networking titans and add momentum to the patent wars for other sectors of technology.
