After 41 Years on the Air ‘All My Children’ says Farewell (Video)

There are many of you out there already suffering from a new syndrome since Friday, called “NoMoreAllMyChildren and I’mStill Tuning In” syndrome.  Many of you have still turned on ABC at that coveted All My Children time, but to no avail, on September 23, 2011, the show was cancelled. Some of the most missed of the show will be characters Erica Caine, Jesse Hubbard and Angie Baxter (later known as Angie Hubbard).

Angie, played by Debbi Morgan and Jesse played by Darnell Williams,  haven’t been reunited that long and WHAM! the show is over.  Jesse was killed off of the show in 1988 only to be reunited with his soul mate Angie 20 years later.  The two, according to the Daily Beast, are considered “the first African American super soap couple.”

There always some bumpin’ and grindin’ going on in Pine Valley and other soap cities, but Jesse and Angie were no fly by night love affair.  Debbi Morgan said, “I remember once Darnell and I had a scene and we were talking about some characters breaking up and Darnell ad-libbed, ‘Well, baby, you know nobody in Pine Valley stays together but the black folks.’”

The show is obviously missed and here’s an interview with the “super couple” here.  Also, check out a classic scene from the show.  Goodbye All My Children.

  1. * Erica Cain -gone from television!?!?! WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! That show is supposed to go on FOREVER -whether I watch it or not is beside the point. I’m supposed to derive comfort from the fact that it’s on and that I can return to freakin’ Pine Valley anytime I want to! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  2. Angela & Jesse will be missed, that’s the reason I started watching again when they returned. Of course Erica was AMC, what’s daytime without her??

  3. Black Love. I was so glad that Agnes Nixion showed us what black love is. That’s when i start watching All My children in High school.

  4. I have watched ABC soaps for over 30 years including ALL My Children. I still can’t believe they replaced it with another cooking show! Daytime TV will never be the same. Thanks for the wonderful memories 🙂

  5. I have watched All My Children the entire 41 years. The cast was part of my family. I taped it to make sure I wouldn’t miss anything. Until the last week on the air I had no clue that it was going off. Thanks for the years of memories. I will never forget you all.

Michael Knight was one on top of my list. I would love to learn from him if he, when he was a very young man, traveled from New York to California in a small van stopping overnight at the campground at Opreyland. I was so sure it was him but was not bold enough to ask if he was Tad on All My Children. He was very polite with a nice greeting and smile which I often think about and will never forget.

It would be nice to have some way to continue to follow up on all of you in the future.

I’m very sad that another cooking show has replaced All My Children. There are more than enough of those, however, there was only one All My Children.

Fond regards to the entire cast.
