The 1987 UNLV Runnin’ Rebel team ran a perfectly exciting basketball season all the way to the Final Four. Jerry Tarkanian was the coach and the whole nation was watching as this team exhibited professional ability in their exhilarating season. They rode high with the assistance of a major power forward that will always be remembered.
Armen Gilliam, 47, was a major component of the NBA as well. He played for several teams including the Milwaukee Bucks, Charlotte Hornets, and the Utah Jazz before retiring in 2000. Gilliam was still keeping himself fit by playing the game he loved. But unfortunately, he was playing basketball at LA Fitness in Bridgeville, Pa. when he suddenly died.
A clear cause of death has not been determined as an autopsy is pending. The NBA, as well as Tarkanian are all mourning losing a great friend, but also the loss to the game of basketball.
