If you’re a fan of A Tribe Called Quest, you’re not going to be a fan of actor/director, Michael Rapaport who has aligned himself with rappers and the hip hop world for some time. Q-Tip is at odds with Rapaport over an e-mail that was obviously sent to him and his group by mistake. The e-mail details cutting Tribe out of the production credits and “everything else” regarding the documentary directed by Rapaport.
In April, the EUR reported minor turbulence between Q-Tip and Michael Rapaport as they shopped the documentary, “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest”. Michael Rapaport called producing the documentary a “love letter” to the group, but Q-Tip was upset over not having the control, that he has always had in the group, over the doc.
But now, it appears that Q-Tip’s concerns were a lot deeper than what Michael Rapaport led us to believe. Members of A Tribe Called Quest, Q-Tip and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad, sat down with MTV in March to break their silence on the feud between themselves and Rapaport. The report from MTV has surfaced and Q-Tip read from the mysterious e-mail.
The e-mail read:
“First off let’s close the billing block and put it on the poster so they can’t get on that. Then we’ll **** them on everything else.”
This is a lot more than a little creative difference between the group and Rapaport. It first disrespects the group on many levels, but also cuts them out of any input and possibly profits of the documentary. Q-tip expresses the depths of this e-mail quite eloquently in the interview with MTV's Sway. Check it out.
