There is a double standard that comes with medical marijuana that causes a bit of confusion on the part of both the consumer and the general public. No one would have considered the ramifications of medical marijuana use on those that have children. But now one father has to choose between his health and his child.
According to the Michigan news channel, WILX, the Lansing, Michigan father, Livingston Thompson, Jr., could lose his 10-year old daughter, Shylynn, if he tests positive for drugs because the judge he faced said that medical marijuana is not the best treatment for his epilepsy. Child Protective Services has already taken Thompson’s daughter once for spanking her, but determined that she was not in any danger and she was returned to him.
The issue of medical marijuana and parents is obviously not a problem with others that have been determined to need it, so why is Thompson being harrassed? Maybe this will become a growing problem. But, with Michigan being more progressive with marijuana with the University of Michigan’s hash festival every year for the last 40 years, it seems very suspicious. Folks walk the campus freely smoking weed with little to no involvement with police during the festival which is just down the street from Lansing in Ann Arbor.
