Fox News really enjoys being ridiculous. The latest dig they have taken at President Obama is really a dig at the guests. The last ignorant media move they made was creating such a firestorm over hip hop artist Common being invited to an Evening of Poetry at the White House. If he had invited a gangster rapper it would be easy to see the point they were trying to make, but it’s completely baseless and shows their ignorance to the rap game…and everything else.
According to Media Matters, Friday, Fox Business’ “Follow the Money” host, Eric Bolling, attempted a racist joke during the introduction to his segment referring to the latest guests to the White House, Common and the African nation of Gabon’s President, Ali Bongo, as “hoodlums.” He started out with the Gabonese president saying, “Guess who’s coming to dinner? A dictator. Mr. Obama shares a laugh with one of Africa’s kleptocrats. It’s not the first time he’s had a hoodlum in the hizzouse.”
Which leads into photos of Rashid Lynn better known as conscious rapper Common. He is one of our best Hip Hop artists and one of the most provocative and thoughtful lyricists in rap. To refer to him as “hoodlum” is both disrespectful and erroneous by any standard. Who’s the real hoodlum here?
Later on in his segment, he again makes reference to calling out Bongo as a thug and says, “So what’s with all the hoods in the hizzy? A month after the White House hosted the rapper Common, who glorifies violence on cops, the president opened his doors to one of Africa’s most evil dictators. Here’s Ali Bongo, the Gabonese president, who’s been accused of human rights violations and plundering billions of his country’s dollars.”
If he knew anything, one would expect the President to have to sit down with anyone in the world, from a racist cop slamming a Harvard professor to the ground over being in his own house, to yes, the Gabonese “dictator” that has been accused of stealing from his country. IT’S HIS JOB! That’s why you’re not the President, Bolling. Your intellect and/or intelligence would never qualify.
Check it out for yourself.
