It is such a wonderful feeling to hear a positive story about a young black man. There is a million stories out there about them in the streets gang banging or getting locked up for something that this is one of the most refreshing stories in a long time. This young man has his nose in his books and it has really paid off.
Ty Hobson-Powell is now the youngest student to graduate from The University of Baltimore. He started his college career at 14, and graduated on Monday and plans to attend law school in the Fall. He also attended Howard University before he came to UB. Hobson-Powell’s father teaches pediatric medicine at Howard and he says that he recognized his talent for language early on.
His mom Liz Hobson-Powell said he’s wanted to be attorney general since the age of 4, but first he must get his driver’s license. Startling enough, he isn’t a straight A student either. His dad says he loves Facebook and other teenagery things too much right now.
