Bill Cosby was invited to speak at one HBCU’s graduation and he took the time to make his speech a call to action. He `didn’t want any of the graduates leaving the school and thinking that they got their degree and the work was done. No! He let them know that the work they were to perform was just beginning.
According to Newsone, the 73-year old comedian spoke at the graduation for Miles College in Birmingham, Al. He had the unfortunate task of incorporating into his speech the tornadoes that caused mass destruction in the state and took the lives of the more than 200 residents. He sent a message of social activism and organization for those who were fortunate enough to be receiving a degree.
Cosby also picked up an honorary degree from the school as well. He said in his speech, “This is Alabama. This is you.”
