Another shooting rampage has occurred and this time not on one of the nation’s larger colleges, but a small community college in Alabama. The school is closed today out of respect for the victim as well as to secure the campus and give the small school of 5,000 students a chance to process what has happened.
According to the Associated Press, the shooting occurred at Southern Union Community College Wednesday in Opelika, Al. Thomas Franklin May, 34, had eluded police and in order to be caught, gave himself up. May, three hours after his shooting rampage, walked up to reporters and told them he was the one police were looking for. The media called 911 and the man was taken into custody within minutes.
May is being held without bond on a capital murder charge, as well as attempted murder for those that were injured. One of the injured was May’s estranged wife, Bethany L. Wife. She had already filed a restraining order against him because he had been abusive with her.
