There has been a lot of controversy over African American abortions and now the U.S. Census has shown one example of why. The results are in and if they are indeed accurate, African Americans have officially fallen off as being the second largest group of people in America. We have officially become a true minority and there are sure to be some serious changes in the near future.
According to CNN, Hispanics have taken over as the nation’s top minority group which also makes them the second largest group of people in America behind the white population. The census results show that 16.3 percent of the nation is Hispanic–topping 50 million in number. Now maybe some of you have stopped claiming “Indian in your family” and have taken to using the “Hispanic” option on your survey and the numbers are wrong. If so, those of you with identity issues have cost your state programs that are specific to African Americans as well as other types of aid.
Hispanics will have more of a voice in government on city, state and federal levels. The name of the game in a democracy is those who get their way are those who outnumber the others. White folks?! You made that up, right? Well, now it’s to the benefit of Hispanics over other minority groups. The television and big screens that we’ve complained for years did not represent us or was absent of our image will increase in Hispanic images and representations.
The only thing we can do is amp up our attendance in Spanish classes and support a major push to build black families. But, that will be quite an undertaking against Hispanics because since 2000, they grew by a whopping 43 percent or 27.3 million. Those numbers make them the group with the largest amount of growth in the U.S. Everyone else only grew by approximately 5 percent. And while the nation complains about seeing black single mothers pushing a stroller, holding the hand of another, and pregnant with yet another for fear she will need assistance and add to their ever escalating taxes, obviously, there aren’t many of those cases.
