White Student Becomes Asst. Director of African American Student Union

Torey McCleskey, new Assistant Director for University of North Florida's Student Union

Some African American students are furious over the newly appointed Assistant Director of the Student Union at the University of North Florida.  The students, who held a small protest over the appointment, are upset over the fact that he’s a freshman, he’s only been to one of their meetings, annnnnnnnd he’s white.

The students feel that Torey McCleskey is disconnected from them for all of these reasons, so he is obviously not their best candidate.  But, somehow the school’s student government unanimously decided that he was.  But the concern of one of the former candidates for the position, Christa Merix, an executive member of AASU with three years experience in the group said “they (Student Body President Byll-Cataria and Student Body Vice President Giovannie Medina) are using Torey as a white poster-child for diversity to fulfill their personal agenda of a multicultural agency.”
