More Sexually Abusive Priests Uncovered in Philadelphia

Left to right, from top: Edward Avery, James Brennan, Charles Engelhardt, William Lynn and Bernard Shero

Just when you thought the Catholic priests horrendous acts had ended they just keep coming.  The latest allegations come out of Philadelphia and include three priests, a teacher and a former archdiocese official. They are all being charged with abuse of young boys in the late 90s.  But, what is different about this case than all the others in the past is that they can finally charge a catholic official with the worst crime of all…a cover-up.

This is the first time that an official will be charged with covering up the fact that he allowed predatory priests to have access to children.  The crimes that have been settled in the past never were able to implicate any of the officials for the same crime.  According to CNN, all those implicated and the crimes they committed are:

“Edward Avery, 68, and Charles Engelhardt, 64, were charged with allegedly assaulting a 10-year-old boy at St. Jerome Parish from 1998 to 1999. Bernard Shero, 48, a teacher in the school, is charged with allegedly assaulting the same boy there in 2000, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams said at a Thursday press conference.  James Brennan, another priest, is accused of assaulting a different boy, a 14 year old, in 1996. Monsignor William Lynn, who served as the Secretary for Clergy under former Philadelphia Archbishop Anthony Bevilacqua, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the alleged assaults, Williams said.”

After a bout with alcohol, drugs, weight loss, and depression, one of the victims committed suicide.  These bastards will rot in jail if all are convicted, except for the official that allowed all of this to occur.  Lynn faces a maximum of 14 years in prison if convicted of all charges, according to the district attorney’s office. If convicted, Avery, Engelhardt, Shero and Brennan face a maximum of 67 years in prison.  See the full report here.

  1. Catholic Priest and young boys. So what else is new??? I mean, really? Sad for the kids but….they are PRIESTS!!! Duh. They do this ALL the time. It’s like the breeding ground for the life style. Nothing is going to happen to them. Nothing ever does. It’s unlikely anyway. Ugh!!!
