Online Hysteria over ‘Facebook Shutting Down’ Rumor

Are You Serious?, Society, What's Up

Where’s Antoine Dodson when you need him?  The rumors of Facebook preparing to shut down in March caused a hysteria akin to people running in the streets during an earthquake, landslide or other major catastrophic event.  Antoine could’ve coordinated the madness with a simple “Hide your friends! Hide your password! Hide your pictures! They snatchin’ up errrybody’s page on here!”

But, little would that help if the site went down.  According to the New York Daily News, somehow, a bogus report from the Weekly World News website stated that Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg said, “Facebook has gotten out of control and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life,” at an unconfirmed press conference in California on Saturday.

The story was so big because of this one little report that the phrase “is facebook shutting down” became the 14th most searched for on Google Saturday and the 10th on Sunday.  Read more on the “hoax” here.

Cool blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog shine. Please let me know where you got your design. Kudos
