A family in a small town between Cleveland and Columbus, Oh., are mourning their mother after a senseless shooting occurred in the home on Tuesday over a household chore. The grandmother, who lives next door to her daughter, called 911 in a panic after learning from her grandson that he had shot her daughter in the back of the head.
ABC reports that Deborah McVay, 46, was laying face-down on her living room floor when paramedics and authorities arrived and pronounced her dead on the scene. It appears that her son Joseph McVay, 10, had indeed killed his mother. After turning the gun on his sister, Shawna McVay, 15, who pleaded with him not to shoot her, he went to a neighbor’s home and confessed. You can hear him on the 911 tape retrieved by ABC.
His older brother, Joshua Mike McVay, told reporters that his brother had been having behavioral problems lately. The boy had even had an altercation with his principal and the schoolbus driver. Recently, their parents separated and one of the disputes they had was over having guns in his bedroom. Authorities found six guns in the boys room, including a 12-gauge shotgun and loaded rifle. His brother told ABC’s Good Morning America, “We are a country family with guns and stuff around the house. It’s just a part of our family and it come back on us.”
If convicted, he could face prison time up until he is 21-years old, maybe more. His defense attorney has plead not guilty on behalf of the minor. See the report here:
