It’s so scary to think that the Republicans were able to slip a fast one on us and take hold of the House like that when it’s obvious that a few of them are more than a quarter short of 25 cents. Anderson Cooper doesn’t play politics, but even he got upset and had to debunk a rumor that was spread like wildfire across conservative radio shows and media in what seemed like minutes.
During an interview with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) on federal budget cuts and spending, she told his viewers that the Obama’s upcoming trip to Asia was costing U.S. taxpayers $200 million per day. His entourage would include 2,000 people (which Rush Limbaugh regurgitated as 3,000) and that he was renting 870 five star rooms and 34 Naval ships would be deployed on and on and on. Then her only source was “the press.” But it was really the result of an Indian Provincial Official’s report that had been released without viable sources as well. This report was then picked up by conservative talk show hosts and they really thought they had Obama by the nunchucks.
Where’s the fact-checking people?! Wait until you see the reel that Anderson put together of these jackasses repeating this story on their shows without any foundation to their allegations. No one checked it out. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had to set folks straight because, basically, the conservatives demonstrated their lack of education and common sense at the expense of the President. Who, in their right mind, would equate the President’s trip to the price tag we pay for the war in Afghanistan per day? As Anderson Cooper said, this could be written off if it wasn’t repeated on his show as fact BY A FRIGGIN’ REPRESENTATIVE OF CONGRESS!
Check it out.
