Video: Woman Sawed in Half Beats Bone Cancer

Janis Ollson, 31, bone cancer survivor via risky "pogo stick rebuild" procedure.

When you think of someone being sawed in half, the first thing you think of is a magic show.  But, a woman in Canada with an aggressive bone cancer was definitely not an audience member as her magician-like doctors rid her body of cancer with a truly death defying procedure.  The doctors had only engineered and tried this method on cadavers.

Janis Ollson, 31, was the first living person to ever undergo the surgery and it was a success.  It’s tough to describe what the doctors actually did to saw her in half.  They call the procedure a “pogo stick rebuild.” The doctors removed her left leg, part of her pelvis, tail bone, and lower spine, then took part of the top of the left leg joint and made it a connector between her spine and her right leg. Confusing right? The report will clear it up.

The other amazing part of the story is that she was pregnant when she found out that her back pain wasn’t normal pregnancy back pain, but a tumor on her spine.  The cancer was aggressive, so she had her baby delivered early via C-section in order to go to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for the risky surgery.  Check out how she’s doing.
