*So, no one likes anyone telling them how to raise their kids, right? Well, when a flight attendant takes your crying baby away, what do you do? According to reports made by abcnews.com, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant took custody of a baby girl, after her mother slapped the child on Monday.
When the plane landed, the family was met by the police. Southwest spokesperson told the authorities were called as a precaution for the child.
ABC News said according to a report from Albuquerque police, the parents, Lee Ann and Joseph Cid, were arguing on the flight, trying to get their 13-month-old daughter to stop crying, when the flight attendant, Beverly McCurley, intervened.
“She informed me several passengers had reported that a female subject traveling with a baby and her husband had been observed striking the child on the face in an attempt to get the child to stop crying,” wrote the reporting officer. “McCurley further stated she walked to the rear of the aircraft and observed the mother of the child identified as Lee Ann Cid strike the child with an open hand on the face in an attempt to get the child to stop crying. McCurley further stated the mother appeared agitated with the child and that the husband continued to yell at his wife to shut up due to her screaming at the child.”
The police said the baby had a black eye, but it was blamed on the dog.
Despite the hard-to-believe story, the police said the parents were not abusing their child.
Some confusion also ensued during the incident. A Southwest representative claims that the flight attendant offered to bounce the baby while the parents hashed out their differences. But police confirmed that the baby was actually taken into custody.
So what would you do in this situation – being a flight attendant? Being a parent? I know I’d probably end up fighting the flight attendant! As a flight attendant, it sounds like she was being a bit nosey. But hey, we only have second and third hand accounts to go by. Anything could have happened.
