Cleveland Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert is acting like he grew up in the Bayou with a “root” working grandmother or something. He is throwing all the hoodoo of Ms. Celie at LeBron James he can muster. There’s part of the letter that literally translates into, “Until you do right by me (and the fans, of course) all you even think about gon’ fail.” It’s understandable that the city of Cleveland is upset. I even get the part about LeBron choosing to air his decision on ESPN as being another nail in the coffin. BUT! The way Gilbert articulated his disdain for LeBron in his letter, was as though that venom was always lurking.
The moment LeBron didn’t do what Gilbert wanted him to do, he threw a monumental temper tantrum akin to the fury of the hurricanes that have displaced so many other black folks. This letter is disgusting and leaps past organized basketball into organized crime. In one part of the letter he says:
“If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.
Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.
Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works.
This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.”
We’re not talking about the NBA anymore, we’re talking about the Golden Goose; someone’s livelihood is getting ready to take a hit. My hope is that LeBron, THE ROLE MODEL THAT HE IS, takes a step back and breathes a sigh of relief that he does not work for nor ever has to work for someone who would say the things he said in this letter. Read it here in its entirety. God Bless You LeBron! I think this leopard that has shown his spots to us is what you have been dealing with all the time and just the reason why you chose to leave.
And one small reminder to these diehard fans that are burning jerseys and visiting LeBron’s house and making threats, etc., a good friend of mine that is also an Ohio native (NG) said to the fans REMEMBER: EXODUS 20:3 YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER gods BEFORE ME.
