The history of the United States of America makes interracial relationships taboo. But, there are a lot of other cultures that believe that there should not be a mixing of cultures as well. But regardless of all the odds and obstacles, interracial marriages are on the rise. CNN reported Friday that the Pew Research Center that “studies attitudes toward politics, the press and public policy issues” found that “nearly one out of seven new marriages in the U.S. is interracial or interethnic.”
The report also confirmed that amongst African Americans “about 16 percent of African-Americans overall are in an interracial marriage.” But while African American women venture outside their race from time to time the Pew report states that, “It’s more common for black men to marry outside of their race than for black women.” But not Asian women! Forty percent marry outside of their race.
It would’ve been interesting to see the report show how Hip-Hop culture has influenced the near “tripling” of interracial marriages in America since 1980. But their claim is the immigrant population has grown quickly and, essentially, the options are growing as well.
