There’s Something Worse than High Fructose Corn Syrup?

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) has long gotten the rap that it was the sweetener to beware.  But now there is something new on the scene that is being promoted by health conscious physicians or holistic physicians that may be the worst of the bunch.  The plant blue agave is the flowering plant that when it ferments is used to make tequila.  Yes, it’s lethal no matter how you process it.

The way the plant is processed is the problem because the plant will produce more fructose than HFCS.  Dr. Joseph Mercola describes blue agave this way:

“Most agave “nectar” or agave “syrup” is nothing more than a laboratory-generated super-condensed fructose syrup, devoid of virtually all nutrient value, and offering you metabolic misfortune in its place.”

HFCS is used in almost every soda and is a huge reason why we gain weight at an alarming weight.  Dieters focus on food more than beverages, but the big secret is in what you’re drinking.

  1. Everyone is looking for a shortcut to losing weight. The trouble is that parsing the difference between fructose and glucose distracts us form the fundamental fact that all sugars are create equal. There is no shortcut to losing weight and being healthy, especially by changing sugars. You can’t simply switch from one to another to lose weight. Even the American Medical Association says table sugar and high fructose corn syrup are nutritionally the same.
