Mikki Taylor was more instrumental to Essence’s fashion department than they realized. She has made her announcement that she will be retiring from Essence and somehow her exit has ushered in a litany of speculation that the magazine may be folding. Taylor probably didn’t think that her retiring would cause such a stir.
The magazine has already come forward to debunk the rumors that they are closing. The magazine’s public relations director Dana Baxter was surprised as everyone else according to theGrio.com.
“The magazine is not folding,” Baxter told theGrio.com. “Essence is thriving and not going anywhere. Mikki Taylor retiring was somehow misconstrued.” The rumors were posted on Gawker.com and they also told the world that the “entire fashion team went AWOL.” But Baxter also did away with that quickly.
