Sam’s club employees were called in for a mandatory meeting yesterday only to be given the news that 10,000 would be losing their jobs. The most rewarding experience you have at Sam’s Club, eating the samples, will only be a memory. Well, maybe not gone for good, but certainly less personalized as those associates are disposed of and replaced with some marketing company concept.

But, not only are they in competition with their own family company, they compete with Costco and maybe less significant BJ’s. But the numbers in a recession should not be numbers, but people. Some of those jobs that are held at Sam’s club may be part-time, but people even need the supplemental income to whatever their daytime job is just to continue to feed their families. Hopefully, Shopper Events will be mindful of this and hire a lot of these folks back.
