Massive Earthquake Devastates Haiti

The nation of Haiti has been severely hit by an earthquake ripping through the  country…the worst in 200 years. According to the AP report, the earthquake had a “preliminary magnitude of 7.0 and was centered about 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince at a depth of 5 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The USGS geophysicist Kristin Marano, labeled the quake the strongest in Haiti since 1770.

The devastation included the leveling of a hospital and a crumbled National Palace and U.N. Headquarters.  Now this comes in the middle of the drastic circumstances the country was already experiencing.   Wyclef Jean already has a charity called Yele Haiti over there that  he uses to try to help communities with resources and education.  The country had already been ravaged by a hurricane in 2008, displacing thousands.  The nation of 9 million already live in extreme poverty. 

Many are walking around with absolutely no chance of discovering family members that have been possibly killed in the debris.  The quake was felt in bordering country Dominican Republic.  Go here to see the massive devastation in Haiti.  At this time, none of the governments had a rescue plan.
