The executive producer of Precious, Ms. Lisa Cortes is a powerhouse whirlwind in the entertainment industry.
She has made it happen in the music industry from Def Jam to her own business with Russell Simmons and thought, “Hey! why not try my hand in film?” She is an inspiration to get up and try … whatever it is that motivates you.
She sat down with the Root and shared her thoughts on why the Precious project was so important to her. She believes that black women aren’t represented in the full spectrum of their lives on screen. In Precious, there’s several different black women ranging from Mo’Nique’s character as a damaged woman who is an abusive mother to Mariah’s character as social worker.
Cortes also worked with the director, Lee Daniels, on Monster’s Ball. In fact, that was her foot into the film industry after film school. The most important thing to her and also the most challenging thing was to keep the movie true to the book. “We wanted to live up to the world and characters that Sapphire created.”

Hi. nice info on Maqui Berry. I happened upon your nice blog while exploring google. For the previous few days I’ve been trying to learn more. Specially anything to do with the diet babble. I’ve witnessed it all and my neighbor continues promoting her recent weight loss fad on me. So I’m glad I encountered you. Best regards!
