Dean Cage was wrongfully accused for rape 14 years ago.  He spent all that time in jail and had never done anything.  He didn’t have a record of any sort, yet two components came together to seal his fate.

There was a young woman who thought she knew her assailant and he was a black man in America …  his word had no weight.

According to CNN’s report, Cage was engaged to Jewell Mitchell and it was her letters and cards that kept him going.  She explains that she kept the faith in him and was encouraged by him.  They did the time together.  She knew he was a “good guy” and tried her best to stay by him.  She said, “He was good to my kids and we really missed him.”

A couple years ago, The Innocence Project took his case and gave him a DNA test and it came back negative.  Now he has to return to society and start over with his fiancee’ and try to regain a sense of normalcy in a country that would send him to jail so easily.  Watch here:
