Tim Wise Gives America the Tutorial of a Lifetime (Video)

In case you’re not familiar with Tim Wise, he’s an explosive white man that is getting ready to blow any minute!

He’s all about justice for all people, but he starts with the travesties committed against people of color and/or black people.  He is a crusader that has come to enlighten all white folks on their history.

He wants them to know immediately that the only color everything is about in America is green (Wu-Tang tried to give that lesson in C.R.E.A.M.).

He eloquently reminds them about their history before they ever touched the shores of America and then brings it all the way up to Hurricane Katrina and the division of the whites and blacks in the area where the levees broke.

Wise tells the truth in such a  way that it is undeniable to all.  He even persuaded Bishop Desmond Tutu not to accept an honorary doctorate from his alma mater Tulane University during a time when Tulane WOULD NOT divest from South Africa during Apartheid.

Check him out!  He’s on fire with the truth:

  1. He is indeed a minority of his kind. I hope he continues his work to educate ppl.

  2. when will people open their eyes and see the truth. i know a certain group doesnt want this to happen. it was an eyeopener in seeing a white man put this out there in a way that noone has in a minute.

  3. amongst my friends (of color and not), nothing, and i mean NOTHING, tim wise has said over the years is new. tim is significant for the fact that even when it comes to (white) anti-racism, white people need a white (man…?) to speak truth to power.

and he’s hardly the pioneer, much less most incisive or knowledgeable. there’s jonathan kozol, howard zinn and barbara ehrenreich for starters and hwo precede tim by decades. i’d even put the late great stephen jay gould before wise.

on a simple analogical level, tim is to anti-racism what elvis was to rock ‘n roll, or the beasties and eminem to hip hop.

hey, the american die was cast when it took a white man to “discover” america and its natives. to this day, columbus day is a national holiday. ever wonder how natives who know a whit about history feel about that…?

tim’s obviously a good guy who means well. i’m not calling that into question. yes, he’s an ANOMALY, true that. but is the phenomenon of tim anything new historically?

    hardly.

  4. @JP. ive never heard of Wise or the others that u mentioned. the “message” doesnt do alot of good when it falls on deaf ears or no ears at all. he may not be new for all but to some he is….doesnt matter who the messenger is just as long as the message is valid thought provoking. the truth about our country is ugly..some dont want to face the facts….it happened. and it could happen again because some in the south would not be against another ‘slavery’. the hoods and white sheets are gone these days they are out in the open which was evident in folks still voting for David Duke…hearing the N-word still being said by the same men that are suppose to protect and defend others. sorry i know im rambling but hopefully my point came across.

@JP. ive never heard of Wise or the others that u mentioned.

jp: and no one’s heard of you or myself, either. what’s that got to do with the points i raised…?

femmestry Says: the “message” doesnt do alot of good when it falls on deaf ears or no ears at all. he may not be new for all but to some he is….

jp: that’s ANOTHER point, but NOT the (central) one i was addressing, which you have missed in my previous post. further, by bringing up these other issues while addressing me, you’re just making things more convoluted.

femmestry Says: doesnt matter who the messenger is just as long as the message is valid thought provoking.

jp: oh really? so the message should always be divorced from the messenger? i can think of several situations where contextualizing the messenger and the message apply, for instance, when george dumbya bush said that “this is about liberating the iraqi people.” or nixon: “i am not a crook.” or the big tobacco company ceos who said that they believed that tobacco was not addictive… should i continue?

femmestry Says: the truth about our country is ugly..some dont want to face the facts….

    jp: really?

femmestry Says: it happened. and it could happen again because some in the south would not be against another ’slavery’.

jp: open your eyes. if this is a recession for white folks then this is a depression for poor folk, and let’s not mince words, you and i and everyone reading this knows who poor folk are in this country. you decry slavery while tim wise talks about whites who endorse davey duke. i say, ok, that’s pretty sad, but meanwhile:

    1. the largest theft in history – over a trillion and counting – has been committed.
    2. the gap between rich and poor (by just about any way one chooses to measure) is the largest in history.
    3. media, retailing, food production, and now banking are over-run by huge super conglomerates representing the most concentrated form of power in history.
    4. credit card debt is now at a trillion dollars and is projected to be the next financial bubble to burst.

…but you want to talk about the following:

femmestry Says: the hoods and white sheets are gone these days they are out in the open which was evident in folks still voting for David Duke…hearing the N-word still being said by the same men that are suppose to protect and defend others. sorry i know im rambling but hopefully my point came across.

jp: i got news for you; if you think slavery could make a come back, you’re sorely mistaken. it’s here, new and improved to the tune of a trillion dollars in credit card debt. and that’s just for starters. think about all of the other debt this society incurs: mortgages, health care, car notes, gas/oil cards, department store cards…

jp: the casinos masquerading as banks have thegame so rigged they even figured out the ultimate form of trickery: NAMING. it’s NOT a “credit” card, it’s a “DEBT” card…

jp: slavery gone with the threat of returning? ha! look around – this world is an illusion, all, like enron, built on funny paper. you feel good and buy into it through cars and wide screens and THINGS – the ultimate drugs…

jp: who was the – pun intended – wise person who said: “the most enslaved is the slave who thinks he’s not enslaved” …?

  6. Wow…Jp.. thanks for the serious critique of my comment. First off my saying Ive never heard of Wise and those you spoke of was simply stating a fact and that you brought it to my attention to maybe do a search of these folk. Thanks for letting me know that noone knows of me though. lol. I dont have time to breakdown your breakdown of my comment. FYI…I live in the South cant get anymore southern than Mississippi. “Slavery” comes in many forms…I was talking slavery in its physical form…ie shackles. But yes economic slavery and others do exist…not disagreeing with that.
