The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that a deal has been brokered between InterMedia Partners (Soul Train owner) and Uptown Media to relaunch Vibe magazine, the hip-hop industry resource that folded June 30.
The magazine had seen great popularity in its 16-year run and recently shook hands with the recession and abruptly met its demise as so many other publications this year and last.
Unfortunately, Quincy Jones, who vowed to bring the publication back as an online magazine is not a part of this deal and could not be reached for comment. The new owners have proposed to launch a print version at the end of the year, then quarterly afterwards. They may increase print if they do well on newsstands.
