Arnold Schwarzenegger really has made a mess of the finances of California. It seems that the state is living off IOU’s and Crown Royal bags to make ends meet. The financially strapped state is looking at serious cuts that will affect, not Schwarzenegger and his homies, but the welfare recipients who need it the most.
The financial cuts Schwarzenegger is making is so controversial that House Democrats are wondering if he has the power to make such a sweeping decision. The Associated Press reports that the plan is this:
“The governor’s vetoes included $80 million from child welfare programs; $61 million from county funding to administer Medi-Cal, California’s version of Medicaid; $52 million from AIDS prevention and treatment; $50 million from Healthy Families, the low-cost health insurance program for poor children; and $6.2 million more from state parks. ”
Added cuts he made include “$37.5 million from the In-Home Supportive Services program, $50 million from the Early Start program to screen children for developmental disabilities, and more than $6 million in cuts from programs for the aging. ” Can you say trouble for the people of California?
