Obama Criticized by Israelis for Shoes on His Desk

Everyone is aware by now of the Iraqi journalist, Muntadar al-Zeidi, who threw his flip flops at Bush during a meeting in one of Saddam’s palaces.  Now, some Israeli’s are mad that President Obama was photographed in the oval office on the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and he had his feet propped up on the desk bearing his sole (no pun intended).

Since it is considered an insult in many arab countries in the middle east to show anyone the sole of your shoe, some Israelis took offense to the photo after talks with Netanyahu in Washington last month were reported to be “tense” and his speech in Egypt last week met with Jewish concern (probably from the same group of Israelis).

The photograph was completely blown out of proportion and the Israeli government, as well as, its people need to refocus their energies on more important things happening in their own backyard.

Read here for the full story on this foolishness while we get them a handbook on American etiquette in the mail.

  1. American etiquette? Americans have better sense than to rest their shoes on a desk; this is but the behavior or whores and thieves.
