Here’s the deal. 76-year-old Dan Rooney, owner of the reigning Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, has been appointed by President Obama to an ambassadorship to his ancestral homeland, Ireland.
What some don’t know is that Rooney was a lifelong Republican who did a 180 and endorsed Obama during Pennsylvania’s contentious Democratic primary.
Rooney later campaigned for Obama in Steelers country in Western Pennsylvania. Now it looks like he’s being rewarded. Watch Obama make the announcement below.
Rooney’s father, Arthur J. Rooney, founded the team in 1933. Dan Rooney took over the presidency of the team in 1975 and is a Hall of Fame owner.
