It appears that ever since Barack Obama was elected President, black folks everywhere are sprouting up with complaints that they see happy white people. All of a sudden, they are speaking, they want to shake your hand, they want to invite a black person over for dinner. Well, maybe I’m going too far with that one, but it isn’t as though African Americans welcome their enthusiasm. No! It’s actually having the exact opposite effect…it’s freaking them out.
Now come on my peoples! Either you’re upset that white folk are acting up or you’re freaking out over them being nice to you. Which one is it going to be? It appears that the history between the black and white communities is so strained that we stay on guard and them trying to be nice to us presents a dilemma. We immediately have to contemplate what they have up their sleeve for us. It’s, usually, always something.
Should we let it go and start a nation of flower children and give peace a chance? Should we engage those that are friendly with us and give it a try to be nice in return? It’s funny though, white people used to avoid us like the plague and now, we’re the ones running in the other direction to get away from them. And before some of you get all crazy over this topic of “white on black hugging” you should know that this is all in fun. Read the satirical story from The Onion on this subject and you will indeed get a laugh out of it, but it will also make you think.

Where I live, I don’t see a difference in people in general. I’m the kind of person that gives respect until disrespected.
