The whole Michael Phelps disaster showing him in the news smoking a marijuana bong at a party is simply ridiculous. The opportunity he squandered is, not only one of the dumbest moves in history, but will set him in the Biggest Embarrassments Hall of Fame. in 2004 at the age of 19, the Olympic gold medalist was stopped for a DUI and sentenced to 18 months probation. He was doing all kinds of public service announcements to make up for that one.
My question to you is this (you already know what I’m going to say), if he were black do you think that he would receive the same slap on the wrist? He’s a major role model who has numerous endorsements with Speedo, Omega, Visa, PureSport, Mazda and Hilton Hotels who have all vowed to stand by him. But Kellogg says they’re not renewing his contract and Subway, which signed Phelps to a long-term contract are straddling the fence.
If you can recall some legal acts of kindness against our athletes, please refresh my memory. But, for right now, I’m thinking of LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Kobe Bryant. What if these guys would’ve been guilty of the exact same offenses. And you saw what they did for Kobe Bryant over sex. What if a drug binge would’ve been a part of the story? Read here to see the “symbolic punishment.”

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Another example of justice not being equal and fair. An African-American athelete would have probably lost his medals. I think it is unfair to all of the athletes who have made mistakes and it cost them so much. Michael (only because he is caucasian) gets a slap on the wrist.

i don’t know or really care what the response would have been if phelps were black. i think either way it’s ridiculous. just bcuz someone is a pro athlete does not abate them from having “personal lives”. unless someone is doing something harmful 2 another human being what they do in the privacy of their homes is their business and whomever the consenting party is. i don’t really consider smoking marijuana an issue 2 get up n arms over.

If Phelps were BLACK AMERICAN, you can rest assure that he would get more than a suspension of any kind. Chances are he would have been locked up & charges by now…at the very least!!!!!!
