Don’t know if Mike Tomlin had some ringers he called in at the last minute, but God knows he’s a praying young man. Tomlin sat before reporters in Tampa and let them know about his spirituality a few days before the Superbowl. He made it plain that he was a christian and wanted everyone to know that nothing was more important than his relationship with Jesus Christ.
A stand-up guy, Tomlin at 36 years young, won the Superbowl. The youngest ever to do it. Surely, his team was charged because of the spirit he brings to them. There are accounts from his team that not only is Tomlin a praying man, but his commitment has been passed on to members of the team.
The Linebackers coach was asked about the importance of the game and he said, “Is this game important? Yes. Is it the most important thing? Not even close.” Because key members of the team are able to view the game from a christian leader’s standpoint that in the scheme of things this game could not measure up.
Mike Tomlin was brought into the NFL as an assistant coach by Tony Dungy and he is forever grateful to him and wants to follow in his spiritual footsteps as well as his professional. He said that Dungy made no secret of his beliefs and he wanted to be clear with the press and everyone else where his faith lies. In Baptist Press he said, ”I want to lead with a servant’s heart,” and that he did. The game was a real clash of the titans. Read here to see what empowered Tomlin for the entire game.
